About us

A small, senior, mission-driven team.

NOTICENINJA is a fast-growing SaaS platform built to resolve tax notices in under 30 days. Our agentic AI engine, Kata™, ingests, classifies, and structures government notices automatically — turning paper chaos into clean, actionable data for corporate tax, private equity, CPA, and payroll teams.

We move fast, we're direct with each other, and we care a lot about getting the details right — because our clients' penalties, interest, and refunds depend on it.

Details matter

A transposed digit or a wrong tax period costs our clients real money. We sweat the small stuff.

No layers

You'll work directly with the people making decisions. Good ideas move quickly here.

Trusted to deliver

Remote-first and outcome-focused. We trust you to own your work and tell us when something looks wrong.

Build with AI, not around it

Every role touches Kata™. You'll see how a production AI system is built, measured, and improved.

Founding Head of Engineering – AI Platform Transformation

Remote (U.S.) Full-time · Founding leadership Engineering Reports to CTO & CEO $225,000 – $250,000 + bonus + equity
Apply now

Build the next chapter, not maintain the last one. NOTICENINJA is seeking a hands-on engineering leader to help transform an established enterprise SaaS platform into an AI-first platform powered by agentic workflows, intelligent automation, modern cloud architecture, and enterprise-grade engineering practices.

This is a foundational leadership role for a senior technical builder who wants broad ownership, direct access to founders and executive leadership, and meaningful influence over architecture, product execution, technical strategy, and the future engineering organization. You'll work closely with our founders and system architect to modernize the platform — including our in-house Kata™ AI engine — using AWS, Amazon Bedrock, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, and agentic AI. The role begins with a structured 90-day engagement to validate technical capability, leadership style, execution, and fit; on successful completion it transitions into a permanent senior technology leadership role with significant influence over technical strategy, hiring, architecture, and engineering growth.

What you'll own

Platform modernization
  • Rapidly learn the NOTICENINJA platform architecture, workflows, and in-house Kata™ AI platform, then partner with leadership to define the next-generation platform
  • Lead modernization focused on scalability, reliability, maintainability, performance, and security — driving architectural change without compromising production stability
  • Evaluate current systems, prioritize technical debt, and recommend practical improvements that accelerate delivery
  • Help build and scale a U.S.-based engineering organization while coordinating offshore and distributed resources
AI-native product development
  • Design and build agentic workflows and AI services for document understanding, classification, summarization, workflow reasoning, decision support, and automation
  • Integrate AWS Bedrock, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, and emerging AI technologies into enterprise workflows
  • Move AI beyond research and prototypes into secure, reliable production use, evaluated on customer outcomes, efficiency, governance, and maintainability
Hands-on engineering
  • Write production-quality code daily; design and maintain enterprise-grade applications, APIs, backend services, frontend experiences, integrations, and automation frameworks
  • Lead code reviews, establish practical engineering standards, and drive responsible adoption of AI-assisted development
  • Build integrations with payroll and tax systems, government agencies, CRM and financial platforms, identity/SSO providers, and third-party APIs
Cloud, delivery & leadership
  • Improve AWS deployment pipelines, monitoring, reliability, security, performance, and cost across Kubernetes, containers, and CI/CD
  • Establish standards, documentation expectations, and accountability; mentor engineers and raise the quality and pace of execution
  • Communicate technical options, tradeoffs, risks, and recommendations clearly to executives and stakeholders

What you bring

Experience
  • 10+ years of professional software engineering, including building and scaling SaaS platforms
  • Experience leading significant technical initiatives, major projects, or engineering teams
  • Startup or growth-stage experience and comfort in a fast-moving, founder-led environment
  • Demonstrated success shipping production AI solutions that solve real business problems
Core technical strengths
  • JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, React, REST APIs, SQL databases
  • AWS, cloud-native architecture, distributed systems, and microservices
  • Performance optimization, security best practices, and enterprise-grade software design
  • LLM integration, agentic workflows, orchestration systems, and autonomous task execution
  • Prompt engineering, RAG, structured outputs, tool calling, embeddings, vector databases, AI governance and security

Nice to have

  • AI-powered SaaS platforms built on Bedrock, Claude, Gemini, or other leading foundation models
  • Agent orchestration frameworks (LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen, MCP, or similar)
  • OCR, intelligent document processing, or workflow automation platforms
  • Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, and modernizing legacy applications into cloud-native systems
  • Tax, payroll, compliance, financial services, or regulatory technology
  • Leading engineering organizations through periods of growth
Who will thrive here
  • A Principal or Staff Engineer ready for broader ownership, a startup CTO who misses building, a founding engineer who wants executive influence, or a leader who wants to stay deeply technical
  • You enjoy building more than managing, move quickly, communicate directly, and take ownership of outcomes
  • You're comfortable with incomplete information, create clarity for others, and lead by example — writing code every day
First 30 days

Understand the platform, architecture, infrastructure, and workflows. Review technical debt and modernization opportunities. Build effective relationships across leadership and engineering.

Days 31–60

Deliver meaningful production code, lead technical discussions and modernization planning, and begin implementing strategic AI and engineering improvements.

Days 61–90

Own a key platform initiative, deliver measurable improvements, and present the roadmap for engineering growth and the transition into permanent leadership.

Base salary $225,000 – $250,000 with annual bonus tied to company, product, and individual objectives
Meaningful equity ownership, commensurate with experience, leadership capability, and expected contribution
Full medical, dental, and vision coverage; ESOP today, 401(k) when available
Paid time off and company holidays; remote-first work environment
Professional development, AI education resources, and home-office equipment support
Founder-level access and influence over company-wide technical direction
Ownership of AI platform transformation — not isolated proofs of concept
A foundational role in the next generation of a platform serving Fortune 1000 clients
